For all those tennis fans interested in their trivia and history here are few fun facts from the US Open. With the current US Open in full swing I thought it would be great to look back on some interesting facts and stats.

The fastest serve ever recorded at the US Open since 1991 was a blistering 145mph or 233km/h. Taylor Dent of the USA accomplished this feat in 2004.

Current world number one, Roger Federer holds the record for the most consecutive wins with four.

In 1991 Richard Krajicek hit 49 aces in the quarterfinal of the US Open, only to lose to Yevgeny Kafelnikov in five sets.

It is small wonder the winners of the U.S. Open look so delighted. Not only have they battled their way to tennis immortality, they have also picked up the richest single prize in the sport. Rafael Nadal pocketed $2.8 million for clinching his title last year.

Since it was first staged in 1881, there have only been six years when an American player has not appeared in either the men’s or women’s singles final. Two of those six have been the last two years.

The oldest US Open Tennis winner is Margaret Du Pont, who won the mixed doubles in 1960 at the age of 42 years, 166 days.

The youngest man to win the US Open Singles Tennis Championship is Pete Sampras (USA, b. August 12, 1971) who was 19 yr. 28 days old when he won on September 9, 1990.

The youngest woman to win the US Open Singles Tennis Championship is Tracy Austin (b. December 12, 1962), who was 16-years, 271-days old when she won the women’s singles in 1979.

Last year Andy Roddick went through 150 tennis racquet frames, he started this years US Open with 16 racquet frames (10 of these being brand new).

The first African American to win the US open was Arthur Ashe.

Feel free to post your comments and forward on your interesting tennis trivia to the Slice Racquet Restringing Brisbane team.

Here’s some interesting facts leading into tonight’s men’s final between Fed and Murray. It will be Federer’s first Wimbledon since 2009 and Murray’s first, the first Brit finalist in 74 years. Both players are aiming for history. Federer can equal two marks held by Pete Sampras: seven Wimbledon championships and 286 weeks at No. 1 in the ATP rankings. So far 0-3 in major finals having not even taken a set, Murray can become the first British man since Fred Perry in 1936 to claim any of the four majors.

Slice Tennis Racquet Restringing Brisbane would love to hear your thoughts on the match up???

This time of the season every year there is one male tennis player dominating and this year is no different with Rafa at his dominant best. I can’t see any player ending his clay court dominance not even World Number 1 Djokovic. However the Womens event will be tougher to call with a host of big names to choose from including the return of the Williams sisters. I’m tipping Azarenka however to continue her dominance of the tour in 2012. Give us your tips?
